After a long wait of 32 years, the Akash missile system will be inducted into the Indian Army on Tuesday. The system is a proven formidable shield against possible aerial threats from enemy’s fighter planes, helicopters, drones and unmanned aerial vehicles up to a maximum range of 25 km and upto an altitude of 20 km.

Akash missile system is a surface-to-air short ranged defence system developed by the Defence Research Development Laboratory. It can evaluate and track danger and is capable of launching missile on the basis of information obtained by the radar systems. DRDO has been working on it since 1983.

The system is capable of simultaneously engaging multiple targets and is capable of providing comprehensive short range missile cover to the vulnerable assets in the field force of the Army.

Akash will be handed over to the Army at a ceremony in Delhi in the presence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. The Army will be getting two Akash regiments over a period of next two years.

“The core of Army Air Defense is responsible to provide air defense cover to the alotted vulnerable assets. Akash weapon system is a state of the art short ranged, surface to air missile system. The teeth of the system are the super sonic rocket ramget missile. This missile has a range from 3 to 25 km. It has an altitude from as low as 30 metres going upto 20 kms. It flies several macs, upto 2.5 mac.”

“If you fire two missiles in a ripple it produces a single shot k – capability of 98%, we have a 3D central acquisition radar which looks far beyond upto 120 kms. As the target comes near, we have the state of the art face tracking radar that tracks the target, and the systems which control the missile precisely. Our regiment has 6 fire units, each fire unit has 4 Akaash launchers, each with three ready to fire missiles, so a lot of fire power goes along with each fire unit,” Director General of Army Air Defence (DGAAD) Lt. General VK Saxena said.

Currently two regiments of Akash weapon systems are being looked at. The first production model, which is the first fire unit will be inducted on Tuesday and the balance will get inducted in a period of 2-3 years.

标题: 搜索雷达是S打头的我不会拼，色非蓝死读音，这个acquisition 应该翻成截获雷达吧，不过看下文，应该指的是搜索雷达。

The Akash missiles, which have an interception range of 25km, will progressively replace the obsolete air defence weapons in the Army, as was reported by TOI in March. The Army has initially ordered two Akash regiments, with six firing batteries and hundreds of missiles each, for around Rs 14,180 crore. While the first regiment will be fully in place later this year, the second one will follow by end-2016.

“The capability that we have with this system will ensure that it takes care of vulnerability of our assets. Akash is a step towards self-realization of indigenization,” said Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag.

As was first reported by TOI, IAF has already begun to deploy six Akash missile squadrons in the north-east to counter China’s build-up of military infrastructure all along the 4,057-km Line of Actual Control (LAC), which includes eight fully-operational airbases in Tibet. IAF has ordered eight Akash squadrons for Rs 6,200 crore, with the first two coming up at the Mirage-2000 base in Gwalior and Sukhoi-30MKI base in Pune.

The Akash, incidentally, was one of the five core missile systems of the integrated guided missile development programme launched by DRDO in 1984. After long delays due to technical problems, the indigenous SAM — produced by defence PSUs Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics — is finally now being inducted into the armed forces.

印度陆军授予巴拉特动力有限公司一份两个团的“阿卡什”系统订单，预计价值30亿美元，其中一个团可能部署在印度旁遮普邦。印度陆军参谋长辛格将军计划将“阿卡什”武器系统部署在陆军防空部队。“阿卡什”防空导弹技术由国防研发组织负责开发，“阿卡什”导弹系统的陆军版本由巴拉特动力有限公司负责开发，已经服役于印度空军的“阿卡什”导弹系统由巴拉特电子有限公司开发。（北方科技信息研究所于经纬）

标题: 印度陆军订购的2个团Akash，价值22.26亿美元。第一个团将在今年晚些时候到位，第二个团在2016年底前交付。至于印度空军已经开始在中印边界部署6个Akash中队，价值9.73亿美元。头两个部署在Gwalior的幻影2000基地。
和Pune的Su30MKI基地。
